Driving in Bari
To rent a car in Italy, you must be over 18 years old and have a valid EU driving license. International driving licenses are accepted but not required.
On highways, the maximum speed limit is 130 km/h, while on main roads and secondary roads it is 100 km/h and 90 km/h respectively. In urban areas, the speed limit ranges from 50 to 70 km/h and is reduced around busy areas, such as schools.
Paid parking is active from Monday to Saturday, from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm. Several underground parking lots are available in the city center. Blue signs and road markings indicate paid parking areas. White road markings mean parking is free, but the time is limited. Yellow-marked parking spaces are reserved for special vehicles, police, disabled persons, etc. On Sundays and public holidays, parking is often free.
The historic center of Bari is a ZTL () active from Monday to Saturday, from noon to midnight. Only residents or those with a permit can enter this area. This area is monitored by cameras, and entering without authorization results in a fine.
In Italy, almost all highways are toll roads. You can pay in cash or by credit/debit card.
Plan your trips carefully, considering that very few gas stations in Italy are open on Sundays. Those that are open are often closed on Mondays.
